Timberwolves' Towns Out Indefinitely with Calf Strain

Anderson Questionable for Game 1 Against Grizzlies

Suns' Paul Ruled Out for Series Opener

The Minnesota Timberwolves have listed star forward-center Karl-Anthony Towns as out indefinitely with a right calf strain, the team announced today. Towns suffered the injury in the Timberwolves' Game 6 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs. The Timberwolves went on to win the series in six games and will face the Phoenix Suns in the second round. Game 1 of the series is scheduled for Sunday in Minneapolis. In addition to Towns, the Timberwolves have listed Kyle Anderson as questionable for Game 1. Anderson is dealing with a right ankle sprain. The Suns, meanwhile, will be without All-Star guard Chris Paul for Game 1. Paul is dealing with a right heel injury. The Timberwolves will be counting on other key players to step up in Towns' absence. Anthony Edwards, D'Angelo Russell, and Rudy Gobert will all need to contribute offensively, while Jaden McDaniels and Naz Reid will need to provide strong defense. The Suns, meanwhile, will need Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton to lead the way in Paul's absence. Mikal Bridges and Cameron Johnson will also need to contribute, especially on the defensive end. The Timberwolves and Suns are both evenly matched teams, and the series is expected to be competitive. Towns' injury is a significant blow to the Timberwolves, but they have enough talent to overcome it and advance to the Western Conference Finals.
